Front Door
Ever look at your front door and realize it’s worn out, scratched, and just plain ugly from years of use? Ever see a friend’s beautiful new front door and realize yours needs a serious refresh? Yeah, me too! With a little paint, hardware, kickplate, and vinyl numbers (made on my Cricut; I would like to introduce you to my amazing new door!!
I cleaned the door really well and filled in the screw holes around the window. I used exterior high-gloss paint in Behr’s Very Navy. I expected the color to be darker than it turned out and, to my surprise, it is almost an exact match to my bathroom cabinets . LOL! I guess I like what I like. I did use a primer + paint to eliminate extra layers of paint. It took 3 coats and 1 quart of paint with a paintbrush to get everything covered. The color is GORGEOUS!!! I LOVE it!!
I knew I wanted a kickboard on the door because I like how they can make a door look sophisticated. And I knew that the gold kickboard with the gold hardware would be AMAZING 🙂 I got the idea to add gold house numbers using my Cricut and the exterior vehicle-grade vinyl I had bought for another project. I think it’s pretty cool and I joke that it looks like the door from a New York apartment. LOL!
The last touch was to add a door knocker. This one took me a while to find on Amazon because I needed a narrow width to fit the door. I debated with myself about adding holes to the door for the knocker but decided to just go for it. I measured 2-3 times, drilled once, and still had a slightly crooked knocker. LOL! I still think it looks great, though.
Foyer Refresh
Here’s the Before image of my front entryway. Let me break it down: sand-colored walls, boring baseboards, brown door, and dark cold tiles. Yeah, it’s bad. At one time, I liked this wall color because it wasn’t white. But now it drives me crazy and makes me feel like my walls are just dirty. Time for a makeover!!
The new paint color is Behr’s In the Moment. It is so rich and warm and gives you a little hug when you walk in the front door. It also happens to match the green/teal in the hallway wallpaper. And, yes, I did that on purpose. I am concerned about adding too many colors in my house but only because we’ve been taught to consider what “future buyers” are going to think about your choices. Honestly, if I’m making a “plain” decision because of future buyers, I tell myself to knock it off and do what makes you happy. And this green definitely makes me happy!
I also added a new light. Sort of a mid-century modern design in brass (although it looks more rose gold to me).
New Rug
It goes without saying that I like rugs! I love the color and softness they can add to a room. I knew I wanted a rug in the entryway but I also knew it needed to be resilient against dirt, water, mud, and everything else that gets inside the front door. Enter Ruggable. I have been looking at Ruggable for a while and finally decided to jump in with both feet. Ruggable offers washable rugs that can be washed in a home washing machine and they have so many beautiful options. It took me a while to finally pick one but I LOVED the Morris & Co collection based on William Morris wallpaper designs. Enter new rug:
What do you think? Isn’t it perfect!?!? There is one more project I’m making to finish the wall. Here’s a hint: mid-century modern sunburst.
